What is Anxiety ?

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health disorders in the world, and Adderall is one of the most popular prescription drugs available. Most of the people get confused between anxiety and stress. Let’s understand the difference before getting into the details of getting rid of Anxiety.

Stress is a situational reaction that is temporary , where as the anxiety is the consequence of the stress which may last long and effect the quality of life. Everyone in their life invariably experience both at some part of their lives. Yet the anxiety turns out to be a disorder due to lack of early intervention, medically or psychologically. The most important reason for getting confused between stress and anxiety is that they share quite a many common symptoms like uneasiness, tension, headaches, high blood pressure and loss of sleep etc though the origins may differ. Stress can be resolved with few behavioural or attitudinal modifications along with stress buster exercises and change in the life style or even a short break from the stressful situation because the reason is external where as anxiety triggers internally and hence require more attention for treatment. Owing to lack of positive early intervention may turn a simple anxiety into an anxiety disorder.

What is an anxiety attack?

Anxiety attack is a feeling of overwhelming apprehension fear worry or distress. It is different for different people depending upon the intensity of the problems that they are facing or the emotional strength. Symptoms certainly vary from person to person.

We can classify anxiety disorders in various ways. Generalized anxiety, Phobias, OCD ,Panic and Social anxiety.

Let’s understand Anxiety in detail :

Generalized Anxiety : It is a mental illness which causes too much fear and worry over many things that occur daily.

Symptoms : Dizziness is caused due to over thinking. tiredness faster heartbeat (severe palpitations)Muscle pains Fear and trembling, dry mouth, excessive sweating breathing difficulty, stomach aches ,fatigue and insomnia. All these symptoms are psychosomatic as the origin is mental illness but the symptoms appear physically.

Phobias : Any excess or irrational and chronic fear of anything is called a phobia .

Ex : Claustrophobia .Fear of closed and confined places.

OCD : Is another variety of anxiety disorder that is again psychological in origin. Obsessions are unwanted, intrusive thoughts, urges, or images, the presence of which usually cause marked distress or anxiety. The dominant theme of the obsessive thoughts may be harm, risk to self or others, danger, contamination, doubt, loss, or aggression. For example, patients may obsess about becoming contaminated with dirt or germs unless they wash their hands for ≥ 2 h a day. The obsessions are not pleasurable. Thus, patients try to ignore and/or suppress the thoughts, urges, or images. Or they try to neutralize them by performing a compulsion Or repetitive acts.

Panic Disorder : A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions when there is no real danger or apparent cause. Panic attacks can be very frightening. When panic attacks occur, one might think  losing control, having a heart attack or even dying.

This can manifest into physiological symptoms suc as shaking and breaking out in a sweat.

Why ADHD is clubbed with Anxiety ?

Anxiety is clubbed with ADHD as there is  a correlation between ADHD and anxiety: Approximately 50% of adults who struggle with ADHD also have an anxiety disorder though it is not proven among children below 8 years. Anxiety disorders are complicated and turn as matter of concern when combined with ADHD.

Nevertheless one needs to understand that everyone who suffer from Anxiety disorder need not have to be diagnosed as ADHD.The root cause for anxiety must be diagnosed through intervention and initially with few counselling sessions behavioural modification is possible .Anxiety disorders can be treated with meditation than medication if intervened early .In worst scenario it can be treated with medication and psychotherapy .The primary medication prescribed for anxiety disorders are certain anti-anxiety drugs or beta blockers to control physiological symptoms.

What are the causes of Anxiety ?

The exact causes of anxiety disorders are unknown. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, researchers believe that a combination of genetic and environmental factors may play a role. Brain chemistry is also being studied as a possible cause. The areas of your brain that control your fear response may be involved.

Anxiety disorders often occur alongside other mental health conditions, such as substance abuse and depression. Many people try to ease the symptoms of anxiety by using alcohol or other drugs. The relief these substances provide is temporary. Alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, and other drugs can make an anxiety disorder worse.

What are the remedies to over come anxiety ?

Anxiety disorders are alarmingly increasing in US .Each year 18% of adult population are  becoming prey to this disorder. However it an be treated with medication psychotherapy or a combination of both. The primary medication prescribed for anxiety disorders are few anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs and sometime beta blockers to control physiological symptoms.

“Prevention is better than cure “-Even if the genetical  factor being the cause of one’s anxiety disorders with early intervention and healthy and conducive environment during childhood can reduce the risk of intensity.

Secondly one can modify the behaviour of getting over stressed or becoming impulsive or  being emotionally imbalanced through meditation ,Spiritual and physical exercises and diet with no hyper stimulants that trigger negative emotions. Few home remedies for busting the stress and anxiety is listening to soothing music to calm down the brain. Walking outside in a serene location and listening to chirping of birds etc.

Now coming to the point of  using Adderall for overcoming the Anxiety .Is Adderall good or bad for anxiety ?

Adderall is a stimulant drug of CNS to treat inattention hyperactivity, impulsiveness ,lack of focus ,disorganization ,forgetfulness or fidgeting or even excessive talking. Certainly it has various versions on the impact or curability on anxiety disorders. Few may opine it as a medicine that can be used for a combination of ADHD and Anxiety and feel that it may worsen the situation for people with anxiety where as some feel that it would certainly help people reduce the anxiety to a large extent.

Does Adderall help with Anxiety?

It is important to note that prescribing Adderall for anxiety is uncommon. Can it help with anxiety, though? No, and it often makes symptoms of anxiety worse.

Adderall is not an anti-anxiety medication but rather a stimulant that boosts a person’s attention span, motivation and energy. The drug, a combination of levoamphetamine and dextroamphetamine, is frequently abused by students for long study sessions to remain attentive and fend off drowsiness.

Depending upon the intensity of the situation and symptoms Adderall may help reduce anxiety for a short span. However it is not the be all and end all remedy. But there is always a chance of getting addicted to it.

Then how to manage anxiety with Adderall ?

The good news is the adverse effects of Adderall can be overmined as they are not going to last long. The side effects of additional energy due to stimulants can be controlled through anti-anxiety drugs and medicines to calm down .Apart from all these the personal mental health care of spending time on calming the mind through meditation certainly reduces anxiety.

Conclusion : Yes that Anxiety disorder reduces one's ability to work effectively and pulls us down physically and mentally .It also effects our life, relationships apart from the work.I opine that though the reasons for anxiety lies in genetics as well as environment ,since nurture plays a vital role in building of a personality of any human being more than genetics we need to consciously work of creating a conducive and healthy work and home environment and balance between work and life eat healthy ,sleep sufficiently spend quality time with family members ,meet friends quite often and listen to music and bust tour stress and anxiety and stay healthy.Whether it is Adderral or any medication only help to some extent and the compete cure is within us.
